The girl in the centre of this photo is Joyce Midgen, née Moremont, who was evacuated to Holme during the war. She wrote to the village website from Ballarat, Victoria, Australia in June 2002:
I lived in Holme from 1st September 1939 to June 1943, as an evacuee, and attended the village school. I was fostered by Mr & Mrs Baker. I have the fondest memories of my stay in Holme. My daughter is visiting Holme in July — it was she who found the web site for me. She was born in Australia and is making this trip as a pilgrimage on my behalf.
