The Village Hall
In 1914 the locally well known architect H.C. Ibberson drew up plans for a proposed 'institute' to be built near St. Mary's Church in
Holme-next-the-Sea. The final construction differed from the the original plans (much the same often happens today) but still resulted in a
building of considerable character.
The Le Strange Estate of Hunstanton presented the building to the Parish Council of Holme-next-the-Sea and Hamon le Strange laid the foundation
stone. Subsequently the building was well used by the local branch of the Women's Institute and so became known as "The Institute" and,
eventually, "The Village Hall".
Today's building has been much improved and extended with the recent addition of a large kitchen and a meeting room. However, the main hall has retained much of
its original character and features an attractive beamed ceiling. The Village Hall is regularly used by groups based in Holme-next-the-Sea - the Parish Council
and the Knit, Stitch and Natter group hold their meetings in the meeting room and the Carpet Bowls Club uses the main hall every week. The Hall is also used as a Polling
Station for local and parliamentary elections.
Both the main hall and the meeting room have coin-operated infra-red heating.
The toilet facilites include a dedicated W.C. for the disabled. There are no steps in any of the
public areas and there is easy wheelchair access throughout the whole of the building.
Room sizes and furniture
The main hall measures 37'6" x 24' (11.43m x 7.31m).
The meeting room measures 24'5" x 18'6" (7.44m x 5.64m).
The building is licensed for a maximum of 75 persons - and that includes all staff working during the function.
There are 72 chairs available and a number of tables with folding legs - most are 6' x 2' (1.83m x 0.61m) and a few are 4' x 2' (1.22m x 0.61m).
Kitchen equipment
The kitchen is equipped with two sinks with independant instant hot water systems and a separate sink for hand washing. There is an electric oven with separate grill and hob. There is an under-surface refrigerator and a tall, larder fridge. A microwave oven, two stainless steel heated warming/storage cupboards, two hot water boilers (with a fast re-boil facility) and two electric kettles complete the equipment line-up. A plentiful supply of cutlery and china cups, saucers, plates and bowls is also available.

Although there are additional charges for use of the kitchen, the hire charges for functions do include basic use of the kitchen for tea-making etc.
