The Bellars Family Photo Collection

Our thanks to Mr. Tony Bellars and his family for sharing these photos of the devastating floods of 1953 and for supplying the following family memories...

"Mrs. Beryl Bellars moved in the 1930s to "Wayside" and this was sold to the Ings in the late 1950s. The house name was changed to "Saltings". (The concrete area next to the house was used by the army during WWII).

Mrs. Bellars moved to "Kilarny", a tin roofed beach chalet but this is now demolished. I have fond memories here and of "Wayside" and also of the Holme Bird Observatory when it started with Peter Clark.

My family have lived in Holme for three generations, finally leaving the village in the early 1970s. The family names were Coxon and Bellars.

I am Tony Bellars, born 1950 and christened in St. Mary's Church, Holme-next-the-Sea. I am the grandson of Mrs. B.E. Bellars who died in 1966. I am very pleased to donate these photos to the village website archives."
